Naginata is a japanese martial art practiced with wooden pole arms consisting of a sword mounted to the end of a staff.
It is used to perform kata (predefined succession of techniques) or engage in sparing. The origin of Naginata dates back from the Middle Age when this weapon was used by Samurais. After the second world war, “Atarashii” Naginata emerged as the contemporary version of the practice of Naginata. It incorporates sports competition elements and techniques to the practice that keep the art interesting and relevant in the modern age. |
